My name is Jessica but i go by Jai, jess or Jesse. I am 15 years old and go to Southwest High School.

What I learned this summer, I will teach and tell to others my age and up. I will tell them about the issues going on in the world and teach them how to avoid the issue and stay safe.

The 5 Things I learned this are summer:

1. I learned how to make postcards online

2. I learned about different issues affecting the youth around the world.

3.) I learned how to use Youth In Charge and blog.

4.)I learned about how to work together with others.

5.)I learned how to protect myself and others from STDs, AIDs and HIV.

I plan to graduate High School ad go to  a 4 year college. I really want to go to Columbia University in new York or Georgia University in Atlanta. I want either study journalism and make documentaries or be a news reporter or study law and be a defense attorney or corporate lawyer.

When i went to the celebration  it was fun and the dancers were really good. The speakers were very funny  and they had good speeches. R.T. Ryback seems like a really cool person and he’s a good mayor and his speech was also really good. I was happy that I went.

Obesity Vs. Body Image: When we learned about Obesity it showed me what could happen if you over indulge without exercising. It also showed me how fruits and vegetables play a big role in eating healthy and gaining weight. I learned that body image is picture produced by the media. Only you, yourself, can decide if you are “acceptable” to the public because in the end only your thoughts about yourself is what will really matter.

Alcohol Prevention: I learned that with the use of alcohol comes great responsibility. When you are eventually 21 years of age and are legal to drink it is really important that you learn to consume moderately. When you don’t you could find your life upside down and and very out of focus.

Tobacco and drug Prevention: Using drugs can effect your life in many ways. It affects your mind so that you are living in a fantasy and it can make everything an illusion. Although the effects of drugs are meant to be “short lived” if you are a long time user the effects could become permanent. This means that in the users eyes, everything is a type of distortion. Simple things like green grass and a blue sky can look like a yellow grass and purple sky, to them. Tobacco can also effect your health by giving you cancer of the mouth, lungs and throat. That is why it is really important to not to use drugs and tobacco products. Don’t give into peer pressure and just saying no.

Love and relationships: Love relationships comes in many different shapes and sizes but it is also very important to recognize a healthy one from a dysfunctional one. A healthy relationships is one that both parties love each other and genuinely  care for one another, all the while respecting each other in their choices and decisions. A dysfunctional relationship is one that does all the opposite of a healthy one. That means telling each other things to intentionally hurt one another and physically hurting each other also. If you or anyone you ay know is in a unhealthy relationship you or them should end things because no matter how hard you try an already “tainted” relationship can keep hurting the people who are in it.

HIV/AIDS/STDs: It is very important that every time someone has sex that they use a condom and stay protected. If you don’t you raise your chances of contracting an STD or AIDs or HIV. Although some types of STDs are curable some however are not. Some can only be treated and some never cured. Nobody want to their first time to be their last so next time you or someone you know is about to have sex make sure you/they “rap it up”.

Beauty: The phrase ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ couldn’t be any closer to the truth. Everyone in the world has their own perception of what is beauty. Some may have similar ideas but mostly everyone has their own. Beauty can be dark skin, dark hair and dark eyes, while to others it can be light skin, light hair and light eyes and to  some a mix between both. Knowing what you define as beautiful helps you to know who you are and what you like. So next time someone doesn’t agree with you on who’s hotter, bomber, or cuter just remember Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Community Map: The community map was the first thing we did at Asian Media Access. It helped us to notice our surroundings and learn what goes on around us. It especially helped some of the people who don’t live around this neighborhood to see what is in it.

Target Field Field Trip: The Target Field  field trip was our first field trip and we took a tour our the entire stadium. It was a nice trip on a nice day.

Canoe Trip/Movies: It was nice doing to the movies and we saw a movie that I, for one, did not want to see but it id beat the almost canoe trip, because I hate canoeing.

Alcohol

The media make the uses of alcohol look cool but they mostly show older people, 21 and up, so they can prevent younger people from drinking it. It has affected my age ground because it is one of those things that you can’t have until you are older, which makes it a a kind of “forbidden fruit”. This makes kids want it when the see it in their reach. You can live above the influence of alcohol by not drinking until you are 21 and then when you are 21 you drink moderately and/or responsibly. The perception of alcohol would change if the legal age was lowered because it would make alcohol look like it was less of a problem.

When I went to the Twins stadium I had fun. We walked around and met people who work it different areas in the stadium. We ate some really good food and talked to the president of marketing of the Twins. All in all, it was a good day to take a tour of the stadium. I learned new acts about the history of the twins baseball team and how goes into being employee of the marketing division. And the most important thing I learned is how to get inside the stadium.

Tobacco

Tobacco Fact Sheet

Jessica Enwesi

Every year the use of tobacco kills many people. It can affect people through direct contact and/or through secondhand. Most people use tobacco knowing of its deadly consequences but their addiction makes them unable to stop. Many youths however suffer from the effects secondhand smoke. Smoking and chewing of tobacco can cause cancers, lung problems and, ultimately death.

FACTS ABOUT TOBACCO:

  • -Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the U.S.

-Smoking harms nearly every organ in the body.

  • -Women are at increased risk for infertility.
  • -Smoking is a major contributor to strokes.
  • -There are 4000 chemicals in tobacco, 100 of which are poisons and 63, which are known to cause cancer.
  • -Nicotine has been classified as a class 1 insecticide.
  • -Approx. 3000 Americans die of exposure to “environmental” tobacco smoke (second hand smoke).
  • -In the U.S., approx. 3900 youths aged 12 – 17 try their first cigarette.
  • -Smokeless tobacco causes cancers of the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, and gum recession.
  • -Nicotine has been found to be as addictive as heroin, cocaine and alcohol.
  • -Every 8 seconds, someone in the world dies from tobacco related issues.

The good thing about smoking or chewing is that effects of it can be reversed, but that is if you stop before it is too late. You can go to places, like rehab centers, that specialize in helping people ‘kick’ their tobacco addiction. Sometimes it can take a long time to stop but is well worth it. Now instead of dying a slow death you can live longer and healthier.
