March 6, 2008 my friend lost a brother. She lost her brother because of someones inconsiderate stupid mistakes of getting behind a wheel drunk. I’m sure the driver had no intentions of killing someone that night, but he still took someones loved one away. I think there should be more patrolling on the streets at night and the age limit for drinking should rise to avoid these kind of tragedies. Why should someones family member have to bury them or see them in pain due to someone being irresponsible? Drinking and driving is preventable, but my question is what can we all do to help?

Dear Mr. President, can you raise the age limit of drinking?

Alcohol is influenced by the media in many ways. They use young models to grab underaged kids attention. Also, they make the young people on the advertisement look like they’re having “the time of their life” or  lead people to believe that drinking can make someone feel like “they’re in a dream”  . I noticed on one alcohol advertisement it said at the bottom “drink responsibility” . My question for them is … “why is the positive message about alcohol at the bottom in small print”. Think about that.

Alcohol effects my age group the most because younger kids are easily influenced. If someone older than them drinks, they’ll want to do it. I personally live above the influence by looking up to my mom as a role model. My mom does not smoke nor drink, and she seems to be fine without it. She’s always told me that alcohol is never the answer. I think the age limit of alcohol wouldn’t change anything because it still doesn’t top older people from buying alcohol for younger kids.

My experience at the Target Field was great. I got to see the stadium for the first time and learn more about baseball. The stadium was nice and the tour lady did well explaining everything about the stadium and the players. The best part about the whole trip was the lunch and seeing the suites.

I think young people smoke because they don’t think about the health risks their putting themselves in. Teenagers think they can try smoking a  few times and then quit, not realizing how addicting smoking can be. Peer pressure also plays a big role in young teenagers smoking. This is one of the biggest reasons why young people smoke, they think it’s okay since the friends around them are doing it. Cigarets can be one of the hardest drugs to quit. Cigarettes are hard to quit because of a drug called nicotine that causes people to become addicted. Ciagrettes can cause people to become dependent on them. People that smoke  thinks they need cigarettes to relieve stress. However, cigarettes actually increases the heart rate, which means the stress level is increasing. A lot of people in my family either smoke or use to smoke. Seeing people that smoke hasn’t affected me in any way. I chose to be tobacco free because I’ve learned about the health risk here and at school, and also because I’ve seen what it does to people, realizing that I don’t want to be that way now or later.
