This Summer I had a lot of fun working with AMA through step-up. I learned a lot and worked with a lot of different types of topics. I experienced a lot a lot about how a working environment looks like. Some of the topics we talked about this year was about Obesity, body Image, love and relations, alcohol, marijuana, Beauty, and HIV/Aids. We talked about how much obesity has affect on the people in the US. We talked about how Body Image changes us and why it is really important to have confidence in your body. We talked about healthy relationships and we found ways to keep a healthy relationship. We talked about how alcohol has affected on teenagers. We talked about Marijuana and why people do it, We talked about how it effected peoples lives. We talked about Beauty and personal style, we talked about why you dress differently from others and why you choose your style. We talked about HIV/Aids, We talked about how important it is to have safe sex and about how HIV can affect you in many ways, We also took a HIV test. Those are the topics we talked about this summer.

LOVE:

I believe that love comes in many shapes, sizes, and smiles. There is many types of love like; tough love, sex love, friend love, ect. Sometimes when love hits you really hard you can’t control yourself. Love can be good or bad it is just how you see it and what you do with it.

Healthy relationships are being able to trust your partner and being honest. You know each others boundaries and are comfortable.  Theres no pressure or force, and theres not a lot of stress.  Unhealthy relationships has a lot of stress, pressure, force, and lack of trust and honesty.  Arguments would be settled unfairly. Arguments are also healthy, but the difference is how the conflict is handled or settled.

Step-Up Celebration*

It was nice getting to see the mayor and the many people who worked with step up this year. Although it was 2 hours long just sitting there, it was okay because sometimes the speakers were funny and they also had these performers dance. After all of that, before we went home we got to eat some cookies.

Well as I was walking to school, I saw a butterfly and follwed it. Then it lead me into a magic land where I saw the pretty princess…..NO thats not what happen. I came here, Jordon Park,  with the film crew and hang out with them. I got to see some of their movie. its very nice but no subs…YET…..

Recap/Summary*

Through the nine weeks of being able to work for Asian Media Access through Step-Up, I have learned amazingly a lot about many topics that we have discussed or prevented.

  • Obesity vs Body image; When we discussed about this, it was about how people are affected by obesity and body image. And it’s a very hard struggle because its part of their body either if they’re overweight or they just don’t like the way they look its not a pretty position to be in and even til this day, I feel bad for them.
  • Alcohol Prevention; This is exactly about what it says, preventing alcohol. I learned how to prevent alcohol and the signs of an alcoholic or alcohol drinkers. This topic was also about how deaths are related to alcohol usage. And even teens these days are using alcohol in their daily lives.
  • Tobacco prevention/drug; Was about preventing drug usage and tobacco, why not to do these things and the effects of doing them. This is also a part of teens daily lives cause I’ve seen and know people who do it. This topic was also about choosing the right friends so they don’t peer pressure you to do things just like with the alcohol topic.
  • Love/relationships; This topic was about love and or relationships. It was about healthy relationships or abuse and just the many types that there is. We all chose a certain topic to do on this because love/relationships is a big topic.
  • Hiv/Aids/Std’s; For this topic, we learned about it for many days, we even had people come talk to us about it so that we are aware of these things. These are viruses and diseases dealing with sexual intercourse, even if its oral or anal, you can still get them.
  • Beauty; this was a topic where we also chose a topic from breaking down what beauty is. The topics were mainly about body art and the way people dress or the styles they wear.
  • Community map; This one was done on the first week of work where we worked in a group and made a map of our community. We also talked about how the community was.
  • Target field; This was when we got to go tour the target field, it was awesome. We got to go inside and out to get a view of everything. the food we ate there was good too, and it was a great opportunity.
  • Canoe/Movie; on this day, the girls didn’t get to go canoeing because of the weather so they took us to the movies instead and we went to watch the zoo keeper, it was a very funny movie and I really enjoyed it. Although I did want to go canoeing too.

Healthy Relationships are what make love worth while. Healthy relationships is based on trust. In a healthy relationship each partner should feel equal to each other. Also in a healthy relationship you need to communicate with one another. The last thing you need is to understand one another’s need’s. Thats what a healthy relationship is built on.

Summary

The last nine weeks we have been talking about several topics.  We talked about our community, obesity, body image, tobacco, drugs, alcohol, meth, HIV, beauty, and love.  I learned a lot this summer and made several postcards.  Some things I learned are that many car accidents occur because of alcohol, tobacco use can effect your brain and the way you think, HIV means Human Immunodificiency Virus, and that beauty is different in everyone’s eyes.  The girls had a day to go to the movies and we watch Zookeeper.  The movie was great and very funny.  The guys went on a canoe trip and I heard from them that it was a fun experience.  We also had a tour of the Target Field and we got to meet the Vice President of the marketing.  I learned a lot about baseball and how they market to their fans.  Here are some postcards I made over the summer.

I went to the celebration yesterday but I didn’t get my certificate because they never gave it to me when I signed in. But overall it was a fun time, especially when the two STEP -UP interns spoke it was funny. Also when Major R.T. Ryback was dancing with the Lunstrum Group. After that we saw the STEP-UP video and when we were done watching the video we left and got cookies from The Cookie Cart they were good but one of the cookies made my throat hurt.
